On Wednesday, September 26, 2018 Malvern Condominium Property Management was pleased to have hosted an educational event for our Condominium Directors. The focus of the event was to educate Directors on life under the revised Condominium Act – now that we have nearly a year of experience working with the changes already implemented.
The event was a great success, covering topics such as “Current Hot Topics – Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and Decisions from the Condominium Authority Tribunal”, “Communication & Technology”, “New Owner’s Meeting Procedures”, and “The Role of the Condominium Authority of Ontario and the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario”.
Special thanks to our sponsors Shiftsuite, Elia Associates, McIntosh Perry, Shibley Righton, CWB Maxium Financial and CIBC for making the event possible.
We are so glad that we were able to spend an evening of laughter and learning with so many of our clients. It’s wonderful to see so many Directors spend the night with us to further their education, which is vital to the role of a successful Condominium Director.
Thanks again to everyone that participated in making the night a success!
In the information meeting last week, it was brought up again about the course that board of directors are required to take. When will the course be available and where? What are the requirements? I understood that the goal was to get a quorum by having the owners vote on line. How do you get people decide who is to be voted on. Possible board members should understand that they are expected to attend meetings on a regular basis and what their responsibilities are. We get very few people that attend annual meetings and it is obvious that they do not understand what a condominium is. Board members do not any compensation and should not expect special consideration.
Thanks Norman for your question. The training must be completed within 6 months of a Director’s election or appointment to the Board, if they were elected or appointed after November 1, 2017. Training can be completed via the Condominium Authority of Ontario’s website https://www.condoauthorityontario.ca/en-US/training/.
Your comments with respect to Board obligations are excellent. All potential Board members must understand the importance of the volunteer position that they are accepting. Each potential candidate’s information is included in the meeting materials for owners and this is how owners obtain information about the candidates for the Board.
